Equipped with the right applications, a computer can be of great help in virtually any domain of activity. When it comes to designing and precision, no other tool is as accurate as a computer. Moreover, specialized applications such as AutoCAD give you the possibility to design nearly anything ranging from art, to complex mechanical parts or even buildings.
Suitable for business environments and experienced users
After a decent amount of time spent installing the application on your system, you are ready to fire it up. Thanks to the office suite like interface, all of its features are cleverly organized in categories. At a first look, it looks easy enough to use, but the abundance of features it comes equipped with leaves room for second thoughts.
Create 2D and 3D objects
You can make use of basic geometrical shapes to define your objects, as well as draw custom ones. Needless to say that you can take advantage of a multitude of tools that aim to enhance precision. A grid can be enabled so that you can easily snap elements, as well as adding anchor points to fully customize shapes.
With a little imagination and patience on your behalf, nearly anything can be achieved. Available tools allow you to create 3D objects from scratch and have them fully enhanced with high-quality textures. A powerful navigation pane is put at your disposal so that you can carefully position the camera to get a clearer view of the area of interest.
Various export possibilities
Similar to a modern web browser, each project is displayed in its own tab. This comes in handy, especially for comparison views. Moreover, layouts and layers also play important roles, as it makes objects handling a little easier.
Sine the application is not the easiest to carry around, requiring a slightly sophisticated machine to properly run, there are several export options put at your disposal so that the projects itself can be moved around.
Aside from the application specific format, you can save as an image file of multiple types, PDF, FBX and a few more. Additionally, it can be sent via email, directly printed out on a sheet of paper, or even sent to a 3D printing service, if available.
To end with
All in all, AutoCAD remains one of the top applications used by professionals to achieve great precision with projects of nearly any type. It encourages usage with incredible offers for student licenses so you get acquainted with its abundance of features early on. A lot can be said about what it can and can't do, but the true surprise lies in discovering it step-by-step.
“Autodesk’s AutoCAD” is also used in civil engineering and architectural drafting, as well as in land surveying, manufacturing, construction, mechanical design, electronics and automotive design. Autodesk’s PowerCAD product is a high-end, professional version of AutoCAD and is available for PC, iPad and Mac.
What is the main difference between AutoCAD LT and AutoCAD?
AutoCAD LT is the low-end version of AutoCAD and is meant for hobbyist and non-professional users. The difference between AutoCAD LT and AutoCAD is that AutoCAD LT is free but lacks some features. For example, AutoCAD LT does not offer any animation tools, full feature or dynamic block creation and does not support custom commands. However, the user interface is friendly, the program is easy to use and the tools are all there. It is suitable for a wide range of users including students, hobbyists, CAD hobbyists, and casual users.
What is the main difference between AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT?
Autodesk’s AutoCAD is the high-end version of AutoCAD and is aimed at CAD professionals. The difference between AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT is that the former is geared towards designing in 3D and for complex projects. AutoCAD LT is more suitable for simple 2D drafting. AutoCAD is generally considered more powerful and expensive than AutoCAD LT, though most people who use AutoCAD LT will eventually want to upgrade to AutoCAD as their needs require it.
What is Autodesk AutoCAD?
AutoCAD is Autodesk’s professional-grade CAD application, intended for designing three-dimensional (3D) drawings or models. It is often used to create complex architectural, construction and mechanical plans. The AutoCAD app on the iPad and on Windows 10 Mobile is native and is built from the ground up specifically for these platforms.
What are the main features of Autodesk AutoCAD?
AutoCAD is an advanced 3D drafting and design software application. It is primarily aimed at architects, engineers, and designers and is extensively used in the construction, architectural, civil engineering and mechanical design industry.
It is designed to use the latest technologies to provide the most accurate results. It incorporates a number of industry-standard and proprietary technologies to facilitate greater design flexibility, speed, and
X3D is an XML-based language to describe 3D geometry information. It was an independent ISO standard from 2007 to 2010.
There are many 3D editors for the Linux platform, which also work for AutoCAD. There are a number of third-party libraries available for the programming of AutoCAD, such as Graphite and OpenSUSE Project’s libucad library.
Finally, a number of CAD applications and plugins were originally written in AutoCAD and have been ported to other CAD platforms, such as:
Enovia – an AutoCAD and Inventor plug-in for the Inventor CAD product.
MicroStation – a CAD application written originally in AutoCAD and migrated to MicroStation.
AutoCAD 2016 and the rest of AutoCAD have evolved to support 3D. AutoCAD can now import and export the old and new X3D format. The new X3D format is more open to user extensions, thus allowing applications to be more customized. The former X3D format is still available as a legacy format.
Autodesk Pixi is an ad-hoc XML-based language, which allows to describe 2D vector graphics like SVG, PNG, GIF and JPG.
Autodesk Net Viewer
Net Viewer is an AutoCAD-like application for the Windows platform. It provides several functions such as:
Watermarking (the image watermark, can be defined by the user, which is automatically attached to the file)
zooming in and out
support for many file formats (e.g. DGN, DXF, DWG, DXF, DGN)
vector graphics (.eps,.svg,.svgz,.png,.jpeg,.tiff,.emf,.wmf)
client/server (all files on the network are automatically downloaded and can be viewed immediately by any user on the network)
The file formats supported include DWG, DGN, DXF, DGN, DGN+, DXF, DWG, DWG+, DGN, DGN+, DXF, DXF+, DWG, DXF+.
Forge is a cross-platform application designed to create custom models for the Creo and SolidWorks CAD software. It can import and export
Open Autocad and save a file
Right click > save as
Save the file in the working directory you are using to install your Revit 2019
The generated setup files have been installed to the C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2019\20191022
Press the Windows key + R and type run in the search field.
Open the shortcut and edit the Target field to point to the location of the newly generated setup file. In my case, it is “C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2019\20191022\2019_1022_Setup.exe”
I would recommend doing this before installing Autodesk Revit 2019. That way, you can update Revit as many times as you want and only need to re-install the Autocad setup once.
The setup file is located at:
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2019\20191022\2019_1022_Setup.exe
Although Autocad 2019 is a very recent version of Autocad, the setup works because the Autocad 2020 versions are backwards compatible.
Autocad setup 32bit
If your Autocad is 32-bit, you need to install the 32-bit setup (in my case it’s located at: “C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2019\20191022\2019_1022_Setup.exe”).
As a side note, this was also a problem with Autocad 2020: they had a 32-bit and a 64-bit version.
Autocad setup 64bit
If your Autocad is 64-bit, you need to install the 64-bit setup (in my case it’s located at: “C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2019\20191022\2019_1022_Setup.exe”).
As @Gary notes in the comments, you also need the 64-bit components for 64-bit.

Use the floor plan feature to create floor plans that show large-scale structures such as office spaces or commercial buildings. Just open a floor plan drawing and any placed or annotated objects will be automatically included in the plan. Use the grid-based edit feature to apply objects to the drawing as if they were an editable object on a sheet of paper. (video: 1:20 min.)
