delete orphaned sids in acls of external domains in user’s domain. for example, you can use the remove-spsecurity -identity cmdlet to delete the sid or to convert it to an nt authority\authenticated users group. for more information, see manage sid associations and sid owners in active directory.

there are two things you can do to remove orphaned sids. when you create an account in active directory, you assign a security principal to it. when you add a user account to a security group, you also add a security principal to that group. if you move a user account from one security group to another, you can remove the security principal from the old group and add it to the new group.

if you don’t have a backup, you can find information about orphaned sids by using the add-aduser -identity cmdlet to create an account, then use the remove-adgroupmember cmdlet to remove the sid from the security group.

to prevent the accidental deletion or movement of objects (especially organizational units), two deny access control entries (aces) can be added to the security descriptor of each object (deny delete & delete tree) and one deny access control entries (aces) can be added to the security descriptor of the parent of each object (deny delete child). to do it, use active directory users and computers, adsiedit, ldp, or the dsacls command-line tool. you can also change the default permissions in the ad schema for organizational units so that these aces are included by default.

use the following procedure to restore orphaned computer accounts. the following procedure restores computer accounts and the memberof attribute. you can use these procedures to restore other objects by replacing all references to “computer account” with the object types of which the object is a member. in adsiedit, open the directory services access control (dsacl) tab, and then open the computer account that you want to restore. if you’re using a domain controller, right-click the account in adsiedit, and then click edit dsacl. in the dsacl editor, click the ad ds acl button, and then click the add button. enter the following attributes:
i also want to thank you for the help. i am converting 2003 to 2012. one thing i found is that after a user account is deleted from ad, the associated security group may not be deleted. after i create a user account, i can see the “missing” security group. but when i try to convert the user account from 2003 to 2012, i cannot see the “missing” group. i have been able to add the group back to the user but it doesn’t take the user membership. thanks for your help!
